RIYL: Jimmy Eat World, Mineral, The Get Up Kids, Pianos Become the Teeth

Following in the footsteps of their predecessors, Sinking, an emo band from Pittsfield, Mass., is set to release everyone’s new favorite emo-pop EP on Friday, Feb. 16 (the album is already out digitally). Gloom was recorded, mixed, and mastered in West Springfield, Mass., at Gate 4 Studio and the finished product is six concise and intelligently composed tracks that are waiting to be blared in your car.

Combining high-pitched melodies, swirling guitars, throbbing bass, and echoing vocals, Sinking has produced songs worthy of being measured against and enjoyed with the likes of The Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World’s iconic albums that shaped emo to what it is today. Still, what makes “Gloom” truly special is how genuine and familiar it sounds. Each track on this EP sounds like your favorite song you’ve never heard before.

My favorite track on the album is the last track, “Break.” Starting strong, the song explodes from your speakers with pounding drums and melodic hooks that wrap you in and make you stick around long after the song has finished playing.

Sinking will be playing the Elks Lodge in Adams, Mass., Friday, Feb. 16, with Subtleties, Cabin Pressure, MANU, and Time Spent Alone. $10 at the door / show starts at 6 p.m.. Follow Sinking on Facebook to keep up with new music and shows.
