There are few things more universally human than longing. Longing for a new job, longing for that new guitar, a better government, all the people you’ve loved before, etc. Longing is just another type of dreaming, tinged with a bit of the impossible. Maybe you’ll never actually get a new job, or your relationship is really over, but that doesn’t mean that has to be the reality. Longing is a way to passively flirt with the impossible, challenging the universe to prove you wrong. Deep down you know it won’t, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try.
