Premiere: Pink Neighbor “Out on the Block”

Bear with me through this first paragraph: Last year, I had a gig at Rozz-Tox in Rock Island, Ill. We drove through the night to make a Daytrotter session that morning, and Rozz-Tox’s owner was nice enough to let our exhausted bodies chill there almost the whole rest of the day. It was a beautiful summer day, sunshine beating down from a wide Midwestern sky, the Mississippi River in sight, some much-needed quiet time on a hectic tour. This Pink Neighbor song brings me RIGHT BACK THERE and I am grateful as hell.

Grinnell, Iowa-based Pink Neighbor describe their music as “Heartland Friend Rock,” which is pretty apt. This single is out Friday and I am happy to premiere it here. It’s the second of three singles that Pink Neighbor recorded last January at Future Apple Studio Too, in none other than Rock Island, Ill. Yeah. Full circle, baby.

A beautifully harmonized two-person band (and you know I love two-person bands) for fans of Quilt, LuLuc, and probably Fleet Foxes, I’m also just attracted to the level of cute detail put into their visual work. Look at this music video for “Other Delights” as an example of that.
